Motion Graphics Designer and CG Supervisor
Surface Duo 2 was a different kind of UI project because every interaction had to work across two screens, then hold up inside live-action footage. I handled the UI animation for the launch film and supervised the CG side on set, which meant thinking about screen behavior, camera movement, and hand performance at the same time.
I worked with Microsoft teams and outside partners including Google, TikTok, Spotify, and Kindle to make sure the app moments felt cohesive inside one film. I also jumped in where needed on pickup shoots, supporting AC, lighting, and gaffing so we could get what post needed.
- I animated the UI across both screens and made sure the interactions felt connected, not split apart.
- I supervised the on-set CG side so the footage gave post something real to lock onto.
- I supported the production in multiple roles when the shoot needed extra hands.

The videos below show a handful of scenes from the launch where I was responsible for fitting UI animation into live-action footage. Every shot was filmed with tracking screens, so the job was part animation, part matching what the talent was doing with the device in camera.
We started by filming with tracking screens and building the UI around those performances. Because the Surface Duo 2 has two displays, every interaction had to feel connected across both screens instead of reading like two separate comps.
After the first review, it was clear one of the scenes needed a reshoot to improve the flow and interaction. We went back, captured stronger footage, then adjusted the UI so the movement felt more natural.
From there, I worked with the compositing team on the final pass, tightening the UI and making sure everything sat cleanly in the live-action footage. That back and forth is what made the finished piece feel believable.
